Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoniba US tour 2010:

Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoniba start their US tour opening up for Banjo legend Bela Fleck today in Fort Lewis (Colorado) The timing is great. Bela Fleck has just won 2 Grammys on Sunday 31st of January 2010 in LA. The first one for his album ‘Throw down your heart’ in the category “Best contemporary world music album”. The second Grammy goes to the title song ‘Throw down your heart‘ in the category “Best Pop Instrumental Performance“  The song features Bassekou Kouyate & Haruna Samake Trio.

And here is what Bela has to say about Bassekou: “Bassekou Kouyate plays one of the West African banjo-like instruments, the N’goni. In fact he is a genius on it, one of the greatest ever. His group celebrates this instrument, with four great N’goni players, two percussionists and an incredible Mande singer, Ami Sacko. They rock!” Bela Fleck (Jan. 2010)
